Hope Solo... Welcome to South Florida. Burrito loves you!

Hola muchachitas y muchachitos! Burrito want to tell you about his new love. Her name is Hope Solo and she gonna play in South Florida! Well, at least that's what SI.com say and Burrito believe anything they say cause they always have the swimsuit issue an if that no give you credibilitys then nothing will!
Si señoras y señores, Burrito's new chew toy is muy bonita and is maybe the best goalkeeper in the WPS. She will play with the MagicJack's Washington Freedom or a name something like that and will play at FAU stadium in Boca Raton.
But before Burrito continue he have to put up picture of Hope in Bikini!
Ay Chihuahua! Bueno, someone say it not Hope in Bikini pero sure do look like her... si? To continue, Hope is coming off of an injury so we "Hope" she is recovering well and will start for the home opener versus the Boston Breakers Saturday April 23, 2011.

Other than Burrito's girlfriend Hope Solo, the MagicJack's Washington Freedom (or whatever their name will be) will have some of the best womens players in the world like U.S. internationals Christie Rampone, Shannon Boxx, Lindsay Tarpley, Abby Wambach and Australian Lisa DeVanna only to name a few.

Here is video of Hope Solo:

SF Soccer news: MLS Miami, Strikers sign Arguez, WPS and more.

This week we start with MLS Miami expansion news as ESPN is reporting that MLS to Miami might be closer than we thought.
Talk is heating up that Beckham will, when his contract expires after this season, execute the clause in his contract that allows him to purchase an MLS expansion team, and that Miami is the best bet. British tabloid People last month reported Beckham “will be offered a chance” to make Miami the league's 20th team, in part because a clause in his contract won't allow him to invest in teams in Los Angeles or New York.

The Freedom will be moving to South Florida according to the Palm Beach Post. The name of the team will change, for now they are being called  "MagicJack’s Washington Freedom". The team will likely play out of Boca Raton at Florida Atlantic University.
The Women's Professional Soccer league released its season schedule on Thursday and it contained this little nugget:
The home venue for magicJack’s Washington Freedom will be Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. The team might play one or two of its home games in the Washington, D.C. area. “

Strikers
South Florida's only professional soccer team the Fort Lauderdale Strikers have just announced the signing of Bryan Arguez.
“We are happy to bring Bryan back from Portugal to join our team,” states Strikers Head Coach Daryl Shore. “Well feel like he will add a great presence in our midfield and are happy to have him on board for the 2011 season.”
Arguez, a South Florida native, began his career with the United States U-17 team in 2005 and continued on with the U-20 team and became the eventual eleventh overall pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft.  Later in 2007, Arguez signed with Hertha BSC of the German Bundesliga where he played for one season. Arguez was later named to the U.S. roster for the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada and again for the FIFA U-20World Cup in Egypt, scoring a goal against Cameroon.
The Strikers have also started their preseason practices HERE is a report of day #1.

South Florida Soccer News: Strikers, WPS, MLS and more.

Lot's of soccer news this week!
We start with the Strikers re-signing 3 players yesterday. Here is what the team had to say:
The Strikers announced today that they have resigned forward/midfielder Martin Nuñez, midfielder Lennon Celestino, and forward Brian Shriver for the 2011 season.
“We are happy to have all three players back. Lennon brings a strong defensive midfield presence. Both Brian and Martin give us good attacking options. Both are versatile enough to play forward or attacking midfield. Again we are happy to have all three players as we continue to maintain our core group from last season," said Head Coach Daryl Shore.
Last week the team also announced the addition of one time Miami Fusion Captain Jim Rooney as assistant coach.
Rooney began his professional career in South Florida with the Miami Fusion in the MLS. The American midfielder made 67 appearances for the club from 1999 – 2001 scoring 12 goals in the process. Rooney also spent time with the New York MetroStars (now the New York Red Bulls) and the New England Revolution. Rooney served as team captain of the Fusion during the 2000 and 2001 seasons.
Looks like the team is starting to take shape, can't wait for the season to start! Do you want to support soccer in South Florida?

WPS
News about the Washington Freedom coming to South Florida to play a few games and the addition of Brazilian star Marta joining the team was all over rumorville. Unfortunately the later seems to not be the case. Marta signed with expansion team Western New York. The Freedom however will be coming to South Florida to a yet to be determined stadium.
The Freedom has 2 high profile American players in forward Abby Wambach and Goalkeeper Hope Solo who appears to have recently signed with the team. In addition the team has many international players such as Japanese midfielder Homare Sawa who has scored 72 goals in 152 caps with Japanese WNT. Australian Forward Lisa De Vanna who has scored 23 goals in 62 caps with Australian WNT and Norwegian forward Lene Mykjaland, just to name a few. We hope to have more information about the team and where they will play soon.

MLS
One time Miami FC forward Paulo Junior saw a few minutes with his new team Real Salt Lake in their practice game versus the Seattle Sounders. (Game ended 3-3). More info HERE (in Spanish)

Soccer News: David Santamaria signs, "Burrito" Ortega to Strikers? Traffic pays for Ronaldinho and WPS info.

Tons of Soccer news involving South Florida this week!
Now that the MLS Meeting with Don Garber is history, we can focus on the Strikers as they sign local forward David Santamaria. Here is the press release:
Ft. Lauderdale, FL (January 11th, 2011) – The Strikers announced today the signing of twenty-year old David Santamaria for the 2011 season. Per team policy, the terms and conditions of the deal have not been disclosed.
David impressed us during last year’s Traffic combine and we’re glad we could come to an agreement that provides a way for everyone to achieve their goals. We’re confident he’ll develop well and become an important part of the Strikers in the near future,” states Fernando Clavijo, Director of Soccer at Traffic Sports USA, owner of the Strikers.

Burrito
Many notable blogs and newspapers report that Argentine midfielder Ariel "Burrito" Ortega (Not to be confused with our local canine blogger Burrito) is keen on continuing his career in MLS. Reports also say his destination might be to Miami FC soon to be Strikers. Our attempts at getting confirmation from Traffic owners of the team have not been fruitful. Its quite possible Traffic might be involved with the negotiations to another team, quite possibly in MLS.

Ronaldinho
Talk about Traffic... As you all know, Brazilian star Ronaldinho has made his move from AC Milan to Brazilian side Flamengo. Reports have Traffic involved in that deal which makes us wonder here in South Florida if perhaps the Strikers budget might be hit by Dinho's salary. The playmaker is set to be paid over $150,000 per week! We could only wish our NASL 2nd Div team could have that amount for its budget for the whole year! Still, if Burrito Ortega is signed maybe we can forgive them.

WPS
I've delayed writing about the likely move of the Women's Professional Soccer team Washington Freedom to South Florida because I was hoping to get a hold of owner Dan Borislow, who lives in South Florida and owns a communications business here. Unfortunately he hasn't returned my call or emails. But according to the Washington Post Borislow plans to re-brand the team after one of his business products "MagicJack"... Ouch! I hope he rather calls the team Magic City in reference to Miami or some other name instead. Either way I left him a message giving the full support of the Miami Ultras.
I hope the Strikers and Freedom could come to some agreement to play at Lockhart. This would be great for both clubs and South Florida soccer fans could be treated to a few double headers which would help promote the sport further in our area.

New Burrito Cam
Finally, I'd like to report that we have a new "Burrito Camera" device that will be put on the head of everyone's favorite canine blogger Burrito. Expect to see some pictures from his perspective especially on his twitter account Burritofutbol. Be sure to follow him on Twitter or you can view the pictures on the sidebar of this blog on your right hand side.
